Chiropractic Therapy
Chiropractic is based on the philosophy that that body can be truly well and functioning at its optimal capacity when the nervous system is functioning well. This happens when there is no interference within the body. Chiropractic treatments focus on the removal of spinal misalignments, which occur when a minor dislocation of the vertebrae places pressure on nerve. As a result, the causes interference with the nervous system.
Conditions such as impingement, inflammatory conditions, back pain, neck pain and muscle tension occur. Doctors of Chiropractic are well trained to remove these interferences with chiropractic adjustments. This involves using a high velocity low amplitude technique to move the joints and restore function to the body.
Chiropractors treat a wide range of conditions such as:
- Myofascial Pain
- Herniated Discs
- Sciatica
- Sports injuries
- Scoliosis
- Pelvic Floor dysfunction
- Whiplash
- Concussions
- Frozen Shoulder
- Bening Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo
- Carpal Tunnel
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Headaches
- and more
Massage Therapy
Massage therapy is the manipulation of the soft tissues of a body to gain a therapeutic response. The benefits of massage include: to help relieve stress, improve circulation, lessen pain and muscle tightness, increase relaxation and improve the strength of the immune system. Medical research indicates that massage helps boost the immune system response by increasing the activity level of the body’s natural “Killer T cells” which help fight of viruses.
Massage therapists treat a wide range of conditions such as:
- Back pain
- Whiplash from car accidents
- Tendonitis
- Muscle tension/stiffness
- Circulation irregularities
- Sports injuries
- Muscle spasms
- Pregnancy- pre and post-natal care
- Headaches
- and more
Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy focuses on restoring, maintaining, and making the most
of a person’s mobility, function and well-being through physical rehabilitation and hands on treatment. Some of the therapies used include: manual therapy for soft tissue manipulation and joint mobility, shockwave therapy, ultrasound therapy, laser therapy, interferential current therapy and custom exercise programs to improve and maintain body function.
Physiotherapists treat a wide range of conditions such as:
- Sports Injuries
- Pre and Post Surgery Rehabilitation
- Frozen shoulder
- Impingement
- Fractures
- Tendonitis
- ACL tears
- Hip flexor strains
- SLAP tears
- Tennis elbow
- Rotator cuff tears
- Achilles tendonitis
- and more
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an evidence based medicinal technique where fine needles are inserted into the skin in specific locations on the body to treat health conditions. The insertion and manipulation of these needles can balance the energy and regulate functions of the body. These treatments relieve pain, help improve blood flow and increase vitality.
Each acupuncture needle produces a tiny injury at the insertion site, and although it’s slight enough to cause little to no discomfort, it’s enough of a signal to let the body know it needs to respond. This response involves stimulation of the immune system, promoting circulation to the area, wound healing, and pain modulation. Contemporary research on acupuncture relies mainly on this theory Electro-acupuncture: This type of acupuncture has electrodes attached to the needles to stimulate muscle contractions.
Acupuncture can be used for a variety of conditions such as:
- Arthritis
- Sciatica
- Inflammation and swelling
- Sports Injuries
- Neuro-musculoskeletal
- Chronic Pain
- Tennis Elbow
- Bursitis
- and more
LaserTherapy
Laser therapy works on acute and chronic injuries. It stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (LASER). This type of therapy temporarily dilates blood vessels which increases blood flow and increases the cellular activity in the area where it is applied. Furthermore, laser therapy can stimulate nerve regeneration, muscle relaxation, reduce inflammation and pain as well as accelerate healing.
Laser Therapy treats a variety of conditions such as:
- Acute and Chronic Pain
- TMJ disorders
- Sciatica
- Arthritis
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Disc Injuries
- Soft Tissue Injuries
- Concussion
- and more
Cupping Therapy
Cupping therapy is part of many ancient healing systems. Today it is used as a treatment offered by health care practitioners to mainly increase blood flow and reduce pain.
How does cupping work? This type of therapy places cups directly on the skin to create suction, which helps to facilitate healing. It increases blood circulation to the area, relieves muscle tension, boosts cellular immunity, increases pain thresholds, and overall promotes cellular repair. Cupping also
removes toxins by stimulating the immune response, both locally and systemically. Cupping may leave marks which usually go away after 7 days of the session.
At Pro-Med Rehabilitation, we use techniques such as dry cupping which involves a suction only technique, dynamic moving cupping which involves moving the suctioned cups around the body and flash cupping which involves quick and repeated suction and release. Cupping is not suitable for those who have blood disorders such as anemia, heart disease or those on blood thinners.
Some conditions that are treated with cupping:
- Back pain
- Rotator cuff tendinopathy/tendonitis
- Golfer’s elbow/Tennis elbow
- Knee sprain/strain
- Headache and Migraines
- Arthritis
- Pinched nerves
- and more
Motor Vehicle Accident Therapy
If you have been involved in a motor vehicle accident you may have suffered injuries to the spine and extremities. Other common symptoms include headaches, whiplash, bruising, muscle and joint pain, signs of concussion which include dizziness, nausea, fatigue, memory loss, confusion, vomiting, difficulty focusing and anxiety/psychological trauma. It is not unusual to develop pain a week after the accident which is why it is important to seek help immediately. Without assistance and proper care, it can result in life long disabilities.
Our main goal is your maximum possible recovery and a multi-disciplinary approach combining the best treatment for you. Your recovery will depend on many factors, your prior health, your level of injuries and your participation with the treatment program created by your therapists.
We know that it is also normal to be hesitant to drive after an accident;
we offer services to help cope with these issues as well as concussion
rehabilitation.
Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment that accelerates healing by breaking up adhesions and stimulating blood circulation to regenerate damaged tissue and help decrease pain. Shockwave technology delivers strong energy pulses that are placed on the specific injured area for short periods of time. Shockwave therapy produces an acoustic pressure wave that is transmitted to the body’s tissues. The pressure wave created at the
point of contact transmits radially inside the patient’s body.
Some conditions treated with shockwave therapy include:
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Trigger Points
- Calcific rotator cuff tendonitis
- Achilles Tendinopathy
- Golfer’s elbow/Tennis elbow
- Patellar Tendonitis
- Heel Spurs
- and more
Custom Orthotics
Custom orthotics help to heal the entire body. A custom foot orthotic supports your feet and correctly performs shock absorption. It helps improve your overall posture and enhance the performance your body needs.
All orthotics should be replaced every 12-18 months to remain 100% effective. In our clinic, we perform a gait analysis- assessments include evaluating your entire musculoskeletal system by focusing on your feet. After assessing your gait, we observe your range of motion and conduct a postural analysis. We then cast your foot in our foam boxes and send it to our lab where your custom orthotics are made. Custom orthotics need to be worn in both shoes so that your body is in balance.
Some conditions treated with Custom Orthotics:
- Plantar fasciitis
- Flat feet (pes planus)
- Achilles tendonitis
- Heel spurs
- Osteoarthritis
- Morton’s Neuroma
- and more
Custom Medical Braces
Custom bracing for your spine and joints offers the support you need. Their functions are many, including acting as shock absorber, evenly distributing pressure to certain tendons and providing support in everyday wear. We offer premium quality braces and support, more specifically for the knee, ankle, wrist, elbow, shoulders, mid and lower back medical braces. Our custom braces are used for medical and sports related injuries. Medical braces help relieve pain and support the body’s natural healing process. Sports braces support you through activities specifically working on relieving pain and improving performance.
Some conditions treated with medical bracing:
- Rotator cuff injuries
- Back pain
- Knee tears/sprains and strains
- Tennis Elbow
- Osteoarthritis
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Fractures
- and more
Compression Socks and Stockings
Compression socks and stockings are comfortable and therapeutically
help your legs with every step by helping your blood vessels work effectively.
Why wear compression stockings? These are effective in reducing the risk of deep vein thrombosis where blood clots can form in the leg from long periods of immobility such as sitting or standing. High risk groups for pulmonary embolism as a result of blood clots in the legs include those that frequently travel, obesity and pregnant women. Studies demonstrate that gradient compression stockings are beneficial in relieving symptoms of cardiovascular disease.
What we offer: Medical compression socks and performance compression socks. Medical compression- these compression socks are helpful for people that travel long periods, are pregnant, have varicose veins, and are immobile. Performance Compression- these compression socks are helpful for those that want to increase blood circulation during physical activity, reducing cramps during workouts, increasing oxygen to help with energy and endurance and help stabilize and diminish muscle vibration.
Some conditions treated with Compression stockings:
- Varicose Veins
- Skin Ulcers
- Symptoms of Diabetes
- Deep Vein Thrombosis
- Chronic Venous Insufficiency
- Lymphatic conditions
- Swelling due to obesity, pre and post pregnancy, injuries and
immobility - and more
Kinesiotaping
Kinesiotaping helps with muscle movement, relieves pain, reduces swelling and provides support to muscles and joints. We use a thin, flexible tape and apply it to areas of injury to help with these issues. The taping creates a lift that unloads the underlying issues in your muscles and joints. Decompressing those tissues can change the signals going to the brain and tension in the trigger point decreases. Kinesiotaping also works by changing the pressure gradient in the area underneath your skin and therefore helps reduce swelling.
Most people use it to treat injuries and improve performance. The tape’s medical-grade adhesive is water-resistant and strong enough to stay on the skin for three to five days while you workout or shower.
Some conditions that are treated by Kinesiotaping:
- Patellar tendonitis
- Rotator cuff tears/sprains and strains
- Back sprains/strains
- PFPS
- Achilles tendonitis
- Plantar Fasciitis
- ITB syndrome
